Being in a band in the 21st century is hard since the competition is perpetual in music, with bands forming everywhere, each with their unique, individual style. It makes being noticed especially difficult, wanting to find something unique about a band that could be like one-hundred others.
Since the beginning, however, The Evergreens have always focused on their audience, from starting their #YouMadeMeCry hashtag, to their messages embedded in their music of victim empowerment and strength.
"Our music has always been about representing the right people and the experiences that no one talks about"
about us
why cry?
Cry is an album all about the power behind a voice. Through the lyrics and individual songs, The Evergreens aim to make a statement, to bring to light the issues in society which aren't always spoken about.
"Abuse is a huge thing in a lot of people's lives and it's not spoken about enough; it's a scary topic, we get it. But hearing about it through music is almost like easing people into the difficult conversations and that's what we did with You Made Me Cry." (Willow)
With the release of this album, The Evergreens also introduced their new charity, with 75% of the profits going towards helping abuse victims, especially youths find themselves once again.
history
The band, formed in 2015, didn't begin as friends. After meeting at a pub through mutual friends, Syd and Willow actually had an argument over a taxi, ended up sharing and became friends in the cab.
Baron joined the group a month later at a house party where he'd borrowed a guitar and was just playing, a group of people watching. At the end of the evening Willow approached him and asked if he wanted to hang.
The band was formed when the group heard Syd sing one evening and they decided to start making music together.
